Before you can build, you must survey the land. Before you can chart a course forward, you must understand the currents that have brought you this far. “Project Night” is that survey, that charting of the past.
It is named in honor of the “dark night of the soul,” not as a place of despair, but as space of quiet, unflinching honesty—a necessary period of darkness where the stars of true insight can finally become visible.
The Method: A Compassionate Archaeology
This is not a random walk through memory lane. It is a structured excavation with a clear purpose: to understand the bedrock on which I stand. The process will involve a series personal, private inquiries:
- The Defining Moments Timeline: Identifying and writing about the 10-15 pivotal moments that irrevocably changed my trajectory, for better or for worse.
- An Emotional Audit: Looking back not just at events, but at the dominant emotions of different eras of my life. What patterns emerge? What feelings have been constant companions?
- A Forgiveness Ledger: A private accounting of resentments held and mistakes made with the ultimate goal of forgiving others to free myself, and forgiving myself to move forward.
- Mapping the Personal Mythology: Uncovering the core stories I’ve told myself about who I am, where I come from, and what I’m capable of—and asking if they are still true.
The Desired Outcome: Raw, Unvarnished Truth
The end of Project Night is not a plan or a solution. The deliverable is a collection of raw, honest insights. It is the unvarnished truth of my own history, understood with the compassion of hindsight.
This project is complete when I can look back at the whole story, the light and the shadow, and say, “I see now.”
