As the year draws to a close, it’s a natural time for reflection. The past twelve months have been a whirlwind of activity, both in the lab and beyond. This post is a look back at the key milestones, challenges, and lessons from 2025.

Key Project Milestones

This year was defined by [Number] major projects. Here are the highlights:

  • Project Alpha: [Describe the project goal]. We successfully [mention a key achievement or result]. The most significant outcome was [describe the key takeaway].

  • [Your Third Project/Collaboration]: [Describe the project goal and who you worked with]. The collaboration resulted in [mention the outcome, e.g., a published paper, a new prototype, a significant finding].

New Skills & Concepts

Continuous learning is at the heart of any scientific or engineering discipline. This year, I focused on developing my skills in:

  • [A Technical Skill]: I dove deep into [e.g., Python’s Scikit-learn library, advanced CFD modeling in ANSYS, etc.]. It proved invaluable in [mention a project where you used it].
  • [A Soft Skill or Concept]: Beyond the purely technical, I spent time learning about [e.g., effective project management, scientific communication, a new theoretical framework].

A Surprising Result

No year in research is complete without a few surprises. The most unexpected outcome came from [mention the project or experiment]. We hypothesized that [X would happen], but instead, we observed [Y]. This has opened up a new and exciting avenue of investigation for next year.

Favorite [Paper/Book/Podcast] of 2025

I came across a lot of great content this year, but the one that stuck with me the most was “[Title of Paper/Book]” by [Author]. Its exploration of [topic] was insightful because [explain why it was impactful for you].

Looking Ahead to 2026

2025 was a year of [summarize the year in one theme, e.g., ‘foundational work,’ ‘rapid growth,’ ‘intense collaboration’]. Building on that momentum, my goals for 2026 include:

  • Goal 1: [e.g., Publish the findings from Project Alpha].
  • Goal 2: [e.g., Begin a new phase of research into the surprising result we found].
  • Goal 3: [e.g., Learn a new programming language or tool, like Julia or Rust].

Here’s to a productive and insightful 2026!
